Unveiling Wildlife Crime Control in Tamil Nadu

A different time of the day, a different exploration – this time into the corridors of the regional Office of Tamil Nadu Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (TNFWCCB) in Madurai. Led by Deputy Director Manasir Haleema, the bureau stands as a vigilant guardian against forest and wildlife crimes, offering a glimpse into the intricate web of challenges faced in conservation. For us officer trainees, this visit held a special significance as we anticipated meeting our distinguished alumna, Deputy Director Haleema from CASFOS, Burnihat. Madam Manasir Haleema's detailed presentation painted a comprehensive picture of TNFWCCB's crucial role. Established to combat crimes like poaching, the bureau operates from its headquarters in Chennai, overseeing specific zones in Coimbatore, Madurai, and Ramanathapuram. Exploring Arittapatti - Tamil Nadu's Biodiversity Haven

In the heart of Tamil Nadu lies Arittapatti village, a hidden gem boasting ecological wonders and historical treasures. We had the privilege of visiting this biodiversity heritage site on today accompanied by a team of experts, including Dr. D Guruswamy Dabbala (DFO), Manasir Haleema (Deputy Director, TNFWCCB), and other knowledgeable individuals from Tamil Nadu forest department along with fellow officer trainees from CASFOS Burnihat. Arittapatti biodiversity heritage site  unfolds as a 193.43-hectare expanse, comprising 139.63 hectares in Arittapatti village and 53.8 hectares in Meenakshipuram village. DFO Sir, a seasoned expert, shared the site's rich ecological tapestry – home to 250 bird species, including Laggar Falcon and Bonelli’s Eagle, and diverse wildlife like the Indian Pangolin and Slender Loris.
